What is Social Thinking?
When I was first asked to teach the Social Thinking Unit I had no idea what Social Thinking was. Santa Rosa County's continuing drive to improve services for special education students is one reason I will never leave this area.
Social Thinking classrooms focus on providing a continuum of support and services for the individualized need of all students across an array of functioning and grade levels. The Social Thinking Model Classroom was designed for students who have significant social skills deficits, which have thus far impacted their performance in a general education classroom. The students in the Social Thinking Model classrooms take The Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) and their instruction is aligned to the general education standards. The Florida Standards reflect our foundational expectations of what ALL students should know and be able to do in each grade from kindergarten through 12th grade.
